I thought the same thing, I just ASSumed a loaded 4x4 Laramie would come with an LSD no matter what the stock ratio is. I was wrong, but I'm not doing any off roading so its not that big of a deal. A slippery boat ramp will be its biggest challenge, along with some on-road snow so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I think some decent tires would help my truck more than a factory LSD diff.
In my opinion, there is no tire on the planet equivilant to LSD. LSD = 2x the amount of traction that the truck previously had - I highly doubt a tire is going to do that for you. When I added LSD to my 06' I could not believe the difference. I would seriously consider doing it, I found a LSD w/5000 miles on it and had it installed for a grand total of $350.

OK.. Reading all this prompted me to have a question... I live here in Maryland where we got a TON of snow, not to mention I have an icy driveway. Anyways, the other night when I was trying to back my truck up the driveway, I had it in "4X4 AUTO". Well, I apparently was also backing over a pile of snow as well. The 4X4 AUTO didn't have enough "*****" to work and I heard a faint clicking noise in the front. Once I put it in 4X4 LOCK, then all was good. Whats the difference and also did I hurt anything trying to use 4X4 AUTO and hearing those clicks?

i dont think you hurt somethink but i think that the auto is for the road wen you are already moving on snow or ice,it kick in wen the rear wheels start to loose traction,wen stock in snow or ice use lock =front and rear are lock and you got steady reel time traction.

As mentioned the traction controls on these works well, it just doesnt cut throttle like older cars/trucks. It will actually apply brakes to the spinning wheel, and open rear or not the power goes to the other wheel. Will that work for rock crawling? Certainly not, but neither will a factory LSD..
As far as tires I'd rather be stuck in a blizzard with a set ot good snows or chains and 4wd/open then an LSD + 4wd and crap tires. But thats just my opinion as well
Main thing is if spending that 350 makes you like your truck better thats all that matters, thats not a lot of money to spend for your own piece of mind.
