What brand Oil, Oil Filter and Air Filter?
So what brand oil, oil filter and air filter do you guys use for your 4th gen ram?
I'm about to buy a 10 sport QC and trying to research maintenance products. I am a DIY guy and like doing the maintenance myself.
I think I am certainly going to go with Full Synthetic oil. And am going to go with a standard paper air filter. I really don’t want to get into oiling up my K&N. I’d rather just buy a new one, drop it in at every oil change and forget about it. Plus, doesn’t the paper filters provide better protection? I’m way more concerned with protection then an extra 2-3 horses.
What is the deal with AMS and Royal Purple oil? Are they REALLY better then Valvoline or Mobile 1 full synthetic?
Any thoughts on Oil filters? I’m really just interested in BEST PROTECTION.
The other cars I have owned were used and really just bought the cheapest ones on sale at pep boys. But I plan on having this 2010 ram for 10+ years and want the best protection. Thanks.

Most of the DIY info is in the DIY thread at the top of the page. The hemi is very easy on oil. Any name brand oil, mineral or synthetic will be fine. I change mine every 5K miles with any of the oil filters mention under the DIY thread. I provided a long list of cross referenced filters for everyone. I like the Motorcraft line of oil filters the best. The best oil for the money is Motorcraft synthetic blend. I have also used Mobil 1 and Valvoline full syn. It just depends on what is on sale.
I like to use synthetic just to buy me more time between changes. It's much more important that you keep up with regular changes than what you use.
Walmart has full synthetic oil in 5qt. jugs for $20, valvoline & pennzoil. Mobil a bit higher.
Oil is personal preference and out of pocket desired payment.
Like stated earlier just change around 5000 to 6000 miles. I like to change and rotate the tires every 5000 miles myself.
Napa Gold filter (7899)-it's really a Wix in different packing, around $6.
I run a K&N in my box, your preference on a paper though.

Mobile 1 full synthetic & a FRAM Xtra Guard filter. I usually change mine around 6K, regardless of what the computer is telling me (light usually hasn't gone off by then for me).
As for the air filter, I'm still running the stock one till I can save up for an Airraid intake.

Whatever the dealer has on tap in 5w20 and their filter, since I get it done 5000 km or 3 months whichever comes first...8000 kms and 3 or 4...I thiink 4 oil changes. like 4 a year. Twice as many as the manual suggests. I think they want to sell me an engine when the warranty expires.
