My 1st real trip with the Ram :)
Well, I've had my '09 Ram since the end of December and I haven't really driven it much. Other than picking it up (180 miles away driving at night without ever driving one) and a couple of trips to work, I hit 400 miles and my 1st tank of gas was gone. I was a little disappointed with only 14.5 mpg from mostly highway driving. We also had 2 huge snow storms, but why drive the new truck when I still have my 4runner the dealer didn't want for a trade-in.
My 1st fill up was 100% gas at 87 octane. I took it on a road trip from York, PA to Rochester, NY. With that gas on that trip I got 16.0 mpg.
I filled up for my trip home and used 89 octane with 10% ethanol. I got 17.8 mpg on my return trip home. I know my trip back was mostly downhill (south), but the gas had to have something to do with it. It was also about 10-15 degrees warmer.
After this trip, I'm much happier with approaching the 19 mpg on the sticker and will continue to look for mods to improve. I also suspect that the dealer gave me my initial fill up with 87 octane with ethanol. This would help explain some of the improvement. I plan to get 89 octane 100% gas on my next fill up to see if there's any more changes.
I also got to drive in the snowy weather in Rochester, and I am more than satisfied with the way the truck handled. I have the 3.92 w/ limited slip, and I also tried the "ESP" button, but I'm not to sure if it was better with or without.
It was great to finally drive my truck for real, and I have to say, this being my first ever brand new vehicle, my buyers remorse is gone.

You can't expect the full mileage from a brand new truck.
Because everything is brand new, everything is tight and the friction on all the internal engine components and driveline components is high.
After about 10-15K miles when the truck fully wears in, you're mileage will be much better than it is now (given your driving style stays the same). You should see a pretty big increase by just your first oil change.

im not far from you, i live in lancaster county....
i took mine on a trip up to buffalo,ny and back last month (big sabres fan) went to a game, did some stuff downtown as well. Drove about 1000 miles total on that trip, had about 2 1/2 feet of snow total throughout the trip and averaged about 17.8 mpg. I was very happy.

I averaged 18 going to El Paso and back last week,1300 miles. Back in august I averaged 20 going to Ft Benning,Ga and back, 2400 miles. Keep in mind since august, I've added dual exhaust and a torneau cover(that will increase your MPG)I drove 70 MPH each time. I figure with the winter gas and all, I'm gonna average about 22 MPG during the summer time.
