Air Lift Air Bags - Anyone use them?
I have an '09 Ram and am looking at getting a set of Air Lift 1000s. I found a post from last September (2009) where a guy did a write up on the install. But I didn't see if he came back and did a follow up or a review after he used them.
Has anyone used them in an '09 Ram? If so how do you like them? Did they help out?

I have had them for several months. They work as advertised. I regularly haul up to the capacity of the truck and the bags prevent the embarrassing squat that I was getting before I installed them. My only complaint is the schrader valve supplied with the kit. I installed it next to my license plate in my back bumper and it is rusting and looking rather nasty. One would think it would be made of stainless, but apparently not.
yeah i have had them since start of last summer and they help alot. i usually have them filled all the time because once i lifted my truck and it was supposed to be level....these coil overs just dont hold up the back end with no load and was sitting lower than the front. dont have the problem now. even looks good with the quad in the back. i agree stonewhite about the rust. if you found some new parts that were stainless, id switch them out. if not hide them up and under so you never see the ugly things haha
i read an article on the truck and the engineers stated the squat was part of the design. it may look bad but it is what the suspension does and the testers noted that even though it squatted the ride was still great.
they make that part of the design? well designers should design it better since thats what theyre paid for. to make it look good. why design it to look like crap? it does still ride fine. just embarrassing. maybe the fact it was the design was a cover up that they couldnt build it to work right
it's a compromise ruffram. it's not a word you'll find them using, but that's exactly what it is. we are trading additional stiffness for comfort, and as far as i'm concerned it a good trade.
my only question is why they don't offer the bags as a factory option. i have been extremely happy with the performance of towing a heavy boat after installing my airlift bags. if you tow a bunch, i think they a must.

Its good to hear they are working out. Originally I wanted to change my springs and shocks over to the TRX to gain a little bit of a lift. But after reading about all the guys that had problems with their CV joints and other front end components, I ditched the idea. I really only want to keep the rear from sagging when I load up my 4 wheeler and camping gear on the weekends this summer.
My Dad wanted 2 cubic yards of compost last fall. His trailer wasn't up to it, so we took my truck. It turns out 2 cubic yards of compost weighs about 1100 lbs. My truck sagged several inches but it didn't bottom out. We turned the tow/haul mode on and the truck did great. Even my Dad was impressed when we would cruise up the highway like nothing was even back there. Proof the 4.7 with the 3.92s has some spunk.

the truck drives and handles amazingly. the truck can still tow/haul a great deal of weight (especially with the 2010 reassesmnet). When the truck sags it still keeps the same driving characteristcs.
So is it a compromise or a great design? I have towed a 5k trailer with a weight dist hitch and there is no sag, the truck sits a little above level.
Do you want a truck that bounces all over the place but can stay level with a 7k load?? if when it sagged it bottomed out and the performance was crappy we would have a different situaiton. if you are embarassed becasue someone saw your truck sagging get the airbags but seriously that is a pretty weak complaint.

I work at a world class racetrack (Miller Motorsports Park) in the summer months. Part of my job is transporting corner workers out to the corners. Many of the events that take place are pro events and televised. I just don't like the idea of my beautiful truck all clean and shiny transporting maybe 7 people in the bed squatting like a girl in woods on TV. Never know, it may just be my 15 minutes of fame.
With the bags full, I get very little squat even in that obvious overload situation.
