Gears
I agree 100%.
Also if you are questioning it now that means you probably want it. It is only $375 upgrade from the dealer and it will cost about $1500 if you decide you want it later. Also you say this is your first truck, It is only a matter of time before that Sea-doo turns into a 20 ft Bowrider. Then you will wish you had the 3.92's. I say get the 3.92's if you are ordering it. I got lucky and the truck I bought came with them.

where are you getting them done at and how much is it running you? any issues as far as warranty goes or is it not an issue?
I agree with the other posts about getting the 3.92's, for a $375 price increase from the factory its worth it. No offense against 3.21's or 3.55's, there are times when you need the truck to get out of its own way(entering a highway or merging, passing another vehicle) The difference in MPG is'nt a huge difference. I get 20 on trips and that should increase due to the fact since my last round trip to Ft Benning,Ga and back(2400 miles)I added a tornneau and Magnaflow dual exhaust. Just my 2 cents................................Kevin.
are you kidding me? yeah the 3.92 is quicker and better for towing but the truck is hardly slow with the 3.55 (i have no experience with 3.21). Your post is a grosss exaggration of the difference in speed. i have 3.55s and 20sand the truck is fast enough, yeah had I known and or had there been another 09 available I would have opted for the 3.92 but also had I never read anything on this website the 3.55 would have been fine for me and I would have not know the difference. as I have stated before I pull a 5k trailer with no issue and I can cruise along a lot faster than I would ever feel comfortable if I wanted to.
I've test drove 2 Rams, one with 3.55's, one with 3.92's, I noticed a difference. Read my post again, it said to take no offense, you act like I'm slamming the other two gears available,I did'nt. Also I have grown up with nothing but 3.73's and above in my stangs, so I'm use to a little more zip in my vehicles..................................Kevin.

Not to mention higher numerical gears increase frictional losses, plus more rpm = more engine wear per mile. Now if you want an LSD you have little choice from the factory and I will agree at 375.00 its a bargain as opposed to putting an LSD in a 3.55 afterwards.
I test drove a 3.92 truck, the dealer had a loaded up 2wd Laramie demo with a 3.92 and it was a really good deal but I wanted 4wd. I didnt notice any difference switching one from the other, granted I didnt check each one at the local dragstrip so one may have been a tenth quicker in the 1/8 than the other
I bought one awhile back and had it on. I liked the way it looked there for awhile, but after taking the badges and stickers off everywhere else, it just seemed silly to have it on only the front. Plus, it didn't feel right that I was cheapening the real R/Ts out there. I don't know, after adding the gears, LSD, and converter, I might put it back on some day, but I doubt it.
The entire job (converter, gears, LSD, labor, and master rebuild kit) is running me $1,600. The price also includes a 3 year parts and labor warranty. Technically Dodge/RAM could stick me with a bill if the rear end gears fail and cause other damage, but after talking with a couple of tech buddies that isn't the case unless they can see you've modded the hell out of the truck.

With an automatic I highly doubt anyone could tell the difference between 3.55s and 3.92s except looking at the tach with the converter locked up at highway speeds. Anytime a torque converter is involved and not locked up it multiplies torque, the same converter will stall higher with lower numerical gears so it tends to even out, especially when you have 400ft lbs of torque. The 3.92 is nice to keep the rpm higher at highway speeds so when you are towing heavy you arent always downshifting every time you hit a hill.
