Default Mufflex DOD24M and Tonneau Cover ordered

I decided to order the Mufflex kit for my new Dodge Ram today. They said it should be in in about 1 week. Once I get it installed I will post a video clip so that everyone can hear the Mufflex DOD24M. I decided to go this route after reading a thread about it and I think I am looking for the same thing that the other guy had. I am very curious to hear what it sounds like in the cab. To me a good exhaust can be heard outside and no drone inside, so we will see. Also I ordered a Tonno Pro Trifold Tonneau cover for the truck as well. I like this design because of it's ease of use. It is extemely easy to install and if I need to take it off to use the whole bed it is easy to take off. I looked at the Bakflip model for day's before deciding to got with the soft over the hard. I have had a hard tonneau cover before and I did not like how if your item didn't fit under the cover then you had to keep the cover open, with the soft you get a little play for those items that are a little bigger. Another thing I looked at was the bak flip's sit flush with the bedrail's and I like a cover to sit on top of the bedrail's to give you that extra couple of inches back there. I also like this design because soft covers are notorius for not being able to be used in the winter time because you can never get them back on the right way. With this the frame and cover are together so that should eliminate this problem. Finally this cover being a trifold design has "supports" throughout the cover to help with the weight of snow. Again once I get it installed I will post some pictures.

The Mufflex 24 is pretty mellow. Probably about twice as loud as a Sport muffler. One of the first things you will notice is the MDS when it goes in and out. Not bad, just noticable. If you have read through the threads, you probably saw a bunch of posts about it not tightening up. Not sure if they corrected it but the pipe on the muffler is slightly too large and the type of clamp they provide will not crush the pipe enough. So the simple cure is to cut a few more slots in it to allow for compression. You have to be careful though not to cut too deep or you can create a leak.

I had a Tri Fold and didn't like it. The material on the sides does not lay flat where the cover folds. Even after a time, you still have a pretty good wrinkle there. As for function, works as advertised. Just my opinion though.

I know the Mufflex 24 is pretty mellow, that is why I chose it. I just wanted a little more but I did not want the drone in the cab. Everyone that I either talked to or heard about said the Mufflex 18 had a drone and I did not want that at all. As for the install I guess I will see once I get under there. Hopefully I will not have the same problems you had with your cover but if it does crease a little I really do not care unless it tears.

I think you will be happy with the 24". Since you are coming from a SLT, you'll probably notice more of a difference than I did. Have always wondered what the 18" sounded like in person but the 24" is probably just about right.

The cover will not tear. So you should be good to go there too.

I wish I knew you were getting a trifold cover. I have my TorzaTop for sale. I put the cap on and no longer need the cover. I still have one for 3rd gen Ram and 04 Dakota quad cab also.

Do you have your cover in the parts sales section? I check there a few times before I ordered my cover. Also I was looking at your cover online and it look identical to the Tonno Pro cover. I am not sure what you paid but I got mine for $269 Shipped and they added the tailgate seal. Hopefully I didn't go to cheap.

I have the 18" mufflex and there is very minimal drone in the cab. You do not have to raise your voice at all to talk. It is just loud enough to hear inside but not enough to make it a problem. My wife couldn't even tell I had changed it.

Yeah I was affraid someone was going to tell me that. If I find that the 24 isn't enough I plan on putting the 18 on. Then I figure I can sell the 24. This is one of the reason's I bought this system, if I do not like it, it is eay enough to swap out.

you might be perfectly happy with the 24, but don't run it for a week and then decide that it is too quiet because it took mine a good 2000 miles to finally break in. I spent about 2 days on youtube listening to the different versions and decided that the 24 sounded too much like stock and I had heard that the 14 is way too loud if you pull an enclosed trailer since it bounces into the cab. If you plan on pulling an enclosed trailer very often then you should stick with the 24 since I have pulled our trailer quite a few times now and it is alot louder while pulling the trailer since the exhaust bounces off the front of the trailer. But everyone has their own tolerance for drone so you will have to wait and see how you like it.

I do have a boat that I haul all summer and Thanks for the advice on how long it took for your exhaust to break in. I figured about a month but 2000 miles might take a month or two. We will see Exhaust will be here Tuesday and hopefully I can get it on Tuesday. Tonno cover should be in the same day. Then Wednesday I have to go on a business trip so I will get to drive the truck to the airport which is about an hour away so it will be the first Highway trip.
