Magnesium Chloride
I have been on two trips through the high country in western Colorado (Aspen, Vail, Steamboat Springs) in the last two months. Both trips it snowed. The truck with stock tires is good in the snow, I love the Auto 4WD. My main complaint is the ice melt that CDOT uses over there. It is Mag Chlor and is brown. It baked on to my exhaust tips and I thought that they were permanently damaged. I tried straight Simple Green and that didn't touch it. Finally today I did some internet research and got a tip. Mix equal parts cold water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. I sprayed it on the tips and let it just sit on there. I wiped that off and sprayed again. Finally after the third time I got most of it off. I took out my Mothers chrome polish and finished the job, the tips look great, but what a PITA. I am also pretty sure the Mag Chlor is what rusted my schrader valve for my air bags that is installed in the bumper next to my license plate. From now on I am going to spray my undercarriage really good when I get back from these trips, who knows how much damage is under the truck where it gets plastered with this nasty corrosive stuff.
