bbk throttle body
hi all is any one using a bbk 85 or 90mm throttle body on there ram. if so how much did you get it for and do you think it was worth the money and any power gains jegs has them for $429.99-$449.99
dhawk, I haven't thought about putting a larger tb on my hemi yet. But I did put one on my 99 QC with the 5.9 in it. I purchased it through The Fast Man who used to give discounts to Dodge Forum members. Not sure now I've had the one on the 99 for about 3 yrs now. It was a 52mm bore. He takes the factory tb's and reworks them into pcs of art. I made a lot of mods on my 99 but only 2 of the mods really stood out. My linex bed liner and my fast man tb. That tb really woke that 5.9l engine up. My son drives that truck now. Every once in awhile I get back in it and man I had forgotten how much that tb did for it's off the line power. I'm not lying when I say that 99 5.9 would beat my 09 hemi off the line and probably up to the first 100 feet or so. The 99 isn't fast by any means but that tb made it a stump pulling SOB. On normal driving the milage went up about 1.5mpg to a wopping 14 city, 16 hwy, but for less than $250 it was the most cost effective mod I did that actually did work.
Now with all that said, you should check out his site http://www.thefastman.com it has a lot of information and a pretty cool dakota race truck too. I don't see a tb for the 5.7 on his site but call him. He is a great guy to speak with and if he doesn't do the 5.7s yet he would be a wealth of information and lead you in the right direction. Many of the 2nd gen guys here know what I'm talking about with The Fast Man tb's. Jeff.

j ram thanks for the info i know all about the fast man already i have a 2000 dakota r/t cc that i have one of his tbs. from what i know he is not planning on do 4th gen 5.7 yet. he does make a great tb that makes a night and day difference on the 5.9 and for a good price. i added the tb to the truck when i did a full top end upgrade heads, cam, intake, rocker arms, headers, injectors, feul rails amd the throttle body hard to say how much it did for me with all the things i did at once but i am sure it help alot.
What does adding a TB do to the warranty of the truck? Longevity? Is there anything else I need to add with this upgrade? Will it work with a CAI? Sorry for all the questions this is my 1 st truck and I am not mechanically inclined... yet
bore max sounds great and all but the truck is my daily driver so i dont have time to take the throttle body off and ship it to them and wait for it to come back i would guess that would take about a week from what my location is.

Just got an email from dan at www.thefastman.com he says they are doing hemi throttle bodies and it cost $100 and $12 shipping sounds like hell of a deal to me!!
If you replace the stock throttle body with a larger bore throttle body, wouldn't you really need a custom tune to really take advantage of the increased airflow you'd be getting? Wouldn't the computer just make changes to make sure that the engine performs in the pre-set parameters, therefore nullifying any performance gains.
Here's an example: My friend put a K&N filter set up on his 07 Corvette Z06, it worked great for about a 150 miles then he said that it lost whatever gains had been made. He told one of his friends that is a mechanic and was told that the computer readjusted the itself, because it did not know how to react to the greater airflow - it was not programmed to allow more airflow so it defaults to a pre-set air/fuel mixture dictated by the information that has been downloaded to it. A custom tune was needed to allow the computer to use the added airflow to make a gain in performance, he also got a real performance tune and really woke up that LS7 engine. Believe it or not, they are tuned very conservatively.

I have been running Modern Muscle's ported throtle body since June of last year. It is a nice design with a different design that uses stages that are suppose to eliminate the need for custom programming. I am very pleased with it and it did make a nice change in the way my hemi runs. I also like that I was able to purchase a complete bolt on unit and still keep my stock one on the shelf.
He has a nice dyno chart of a 5.7 in a Charger with stock - TB - and TB and CAI to give you an idea of what is possible.

I had a Fastman TB on my 5.9 Durango and I would say this one is slightly better IMO.
