This can be done without removing the grill shell. The ram emblem is only clipped in to the grill. you pop your hood and reach down below the release hatch to pop the clips off. The bottom clip is put in there a little different than the rest off them, you kinda have to jiggle it out after you pop it off the clip. The whole emblem will come off. when you pull it off you will see that the back is actually cut in to 2 pieces, you have to pop those off but be careful as they are kinda stubborn and you dont want to break them.. Once off you sand down the front of the black pastic so it will hold paint. use a good cleaner (i used brake cleaner) on the plastic to make sure its clean. After that use some high quality spray paint and put atleast 3 coats on it. Dont rush this, you dont want to have runs in it. After doing so wait at least 2 hours. I then put 2 coats of clear coat on top of the spray paint. Let that dry for 2 hours (i let mine all dry in the sun) the reason you want to wait between the spray paint and the clear coat is that you dont want the clear coat to run in to the paint as that could distort the color. All in all it was about a 4 1/2 hour process to paint and let dry then clear coat and let dry. After doing this you pop the plastic back into place. Again, be careful. It is a very tight fit and now you just put 5 layers of paint and clear coat on it so its a even tighter fit. when you first take the emblem off the truck you will see that there is some type of tape/foam on the back of the plastic. we used 3m tape to ensure that it would stay put. after all that, pop it back in and enjoy

BTW: welcome aboard, i havent been here long but its a great place to learn about your new dodge

its all personal preference, i was going to color match my calipers to my truck but white and brake dust dont really go together all that well. So i did them red and that is the small theme i am carrying out in my truck.

Painting your grille shell is just like painting your chrome bumpers.

you have to sand it down, put a few coats of self-etching promer, then regular primer, then paint, then clearcoat.

i consider taking it to a shop, they know exactly what sandpaper and primer to use, and it will come out a lot cleaner.

Grill swap complete. Both parties very happy. One thing though, I need to get the sport bumpers now.
