Default Couple of RAM 2500 2010 Questions

Ok, I am about to buy a RAM 2500 Crew Cab Short Box in the next 2-3 months....I am using it to Snow plow, pickup mulch/stone/landscaping bunch of other stuff too but I have a company car too so it'll only get 3000+/- miles a year. I plan on keeping this truck 15+ years

1. My question is should i get 4.10 or 3.73 rears??? it will be equipped with snow plow prep and anti-spin rear diff. Is the fuel mileage really that much worse because the 4.10's sound appealing to me for plowing and hauling.

2. I'm looking at buying a base model ST for cost savings, CAN I swap the rear windows out to a Non-power sliding rear window later?.

It's about $3,500 more to go SLT so i'm not spending that much more. Thanks for all your help!

Get the 4.10's. For some insight I had two different 2003 Dodge Cummins powered 2500 Rams. I used both for plowing. The first one was a quad cab that had the standard output Cummins (250hp/460tq) and 4.10 gears. The second truck was a regular cab, high output Cummins (305hp/555tq) with 3.73 gears. I can honestly that the 4.10 equipped quad cab with less power out plowed the 3.73 regular cab with more power. This was most notable while stacking snow. It seemed like I had to work the 3.73 regular cab harder to move the snow up the pile.

When I ordered my new 2010 it was a no brainer to get the 4.10 ratio. In addition the 4.10 increases both your tow rating and GCVWR.

I have no answer regarding the back window. I actually ordered my laramie with the solid window and took a credit for it. I never use the sliding windows and prefer to have the rear defroster.

No problem. As you can see by my signature my new truck is a Hemi. I used the Cummins analogy to show how gearing affects performance when plowing. Mainly, the heavier and lower powered truck performed better plowing because it had the 4.10 ratio. The same laws apply to Hemi powered trucks. Get the 4.10's.
