It's when you run your exhaust with no muffler. So it's alot louder. If you take the cats off and run straight pipe from the exhaust manifold or headers the light will come on.

It means that your neighbors want to beat you everytime you pull out of the driveway.

you need some back pressure. unless you are stuffing a ton of air into the intake, you will lose some power with a straight pipe. And as mentioned, its illegal.

If its illegal then its certainly not enforced. I've always ran straight pipes in my vehicles and have never been in trouble for it. If someone complained then I suppose you would get in a little trouble.

The hemi still has the stock muffler but it will probably be deleted in the distant future. Mufflex is coming out with muffler delete pipes so I'm waiting for those.

goes by state laws I suppose. I live in PA and you need to bring in your vehicle once a year for safety and emissions inpections. There is no way a straight pipe would pass.

Not to be judgemental or anything, straight pipes are kind of obnoxious IMHO. And honestly, what are they getting you unless you have ram air or a supercharger or some other active air intake system? Just a loud truck?
