09 4.7 Fuel Savers?
Hey fellas, Im looking for some fule savers for my 09 4.7 1500 Crew Cab. Ive put a drop in K&N filter in as well as a low profile Trux Ceto (spelled worng) bed cover on and Im getting about 20mpg with the highway up to 24mpg. I want to get a programer for the truck but my searches come up with 08's will these programers work and has anyone found anything that will help on my quest on getting the MPG up. Thanks.
20mpg city is awesome. I only got 16-17 mpg city with my quad cab 2wd 4.7. As for the programmer the 08 will not work. I contacted superchips and they said they might get to it but the 5.7 was first. Also you have to look at how much your spending to get 1mpg. Spend to much, which I think you already have, and you never get the money back. Here is some simple math. If you fins a mod that gives you an extra 1 mpg here is how long it takes to get your money back. Using the figures for my old 4.7 I averaged 16.5 mpg, so in one tank I got 429 miles per tank. With an extra 1 mpg The figure goes to 17.5 I would then get 455 miles per tank an extra 26 miles per tank. So I would use 1.48 gallons less @ $2.65 per gallon = $3.92 per tank savings. Using a $300 mod divide 300 by $3.92 = 76.5 so it would take 76.5 tanks of gas Multiply by 455 = 34,807.5 almost 35k miles just to make back the $300 dollars. If you start spending a lot of money you will never make it back. I stopped trying to get better mileage a while ago when I started looking at the numbers. Just my opinion.
Not so much city but around town, its a 5 min drive down the interstate from the town I live in to base and on base is 35mph with a few stops and its about 20mpg. I usually drive around with at most half a tank and that gets me about 2 weeks with a few trips to town. As for the wast of money I didnt buy anything souly on the purpose of saving gas, I like K&N because its a quality product and I like not having to buy air filters all the time. And the bed cover is because I like to have the option for some security. Even thow a sharp knife could end that, but the fact of out of site out of mind makes me feel better and it looks good.
