Default Open differential?

I know that the 3.55s are supposed to have an "open" differential, but why does my **** to switch to 4WD have a "4WD LOCK" option? It has "2WD" "4WD Low" and "4WD Lock"....what gives?

It has nothing to do with the differential. Just means that the front and rear driveshafts are locked together. Never use either position on dry hard surfaced roads for any period of time or you can do some damage to the driveline.
