Default MPG/Ethanol/UK?

Hi all

I have posted another thread saying about my interest in these fantastic beasts. One thing that does concern me is the MPG, not an issue at the moment because as I am in the British Army I get tax free fuel but say if I was to return to the UK I would pay £1.20 a litre!

Is there anyway to improve the MPG, apart from driving more conservatively, I mean perhaps these fad mods you can buy on eBay?

Also does anyone know of any petrol stations in the UK that sell Ethanol??

Baring in mind I have had the great honor of driving some of the MPG greats such as the VW Passat which returned 40 MPG whilst doing a 200 mile trip at 100 MPH!!! at 70 MPH it would return 50 MPG!

It's a big truck, not much you can do to increase the milage of something that weighs almost 3 tons. Why would you want to buy Ethanol if you have a choice? Ethanol is a big milage killer because it has less energy than straight gasoline.

E85......Terrible gas mileage. E85 is 2.19gal compared to unleaded at 2.85gal. still a good savings.

You will get better mileage with a Ram towing a passat than with a passat towing a Ram... That's what these things are made for. Plan on 18-19 MPG at the best, if you are lucky, with the wind at your back, going downhill, and stock tires.

Hey Buckers, welcome! I'm combining my reply here with the other thread too.

Being ex-R SIGNALS myself, I am well acquainted with the Benzinscheinen; I too drove a V8 in Germany.

You don't want a Quad cab with 6 up, you want a Crew cab in the 1500, or MegaCab in the 2500 and 3500s.

For gas mileage, you want a 1500, not a 2500 or 3500. The 09s and 10s in the 1500 are both 4th gen, the 09s in the 2500 and 3500 were 3rd gen. HUGE difference.

You could get a folding tonneau for the bed to give a little shelter to the hound. That said, my dogs are fine at the kids' feet.

I happened to have been in the UK last week, and saw a RAM, which surprised the bejezus out of me. I don't know how they got the headlights converted and such, I can imagine that wouldn't be too straightforward.

BTW - don't forget the truck is calibrated in US gals, not Imperial, so the mileage figures are slightly out when comparing with Imperial. The US gal is 20% smaller. My truck (09 1500 HEMI) does 20-22mpg on a run, and about 15 in town. That equates to 24-26 on a run, and 18 or so in town in Imperial mpg.

If it makes any difference to you, I can tell you that having driven a Passat rental last week, and then got in my RAM at the airport last night, it felt like a Rolls-Royce.

I wish you well.
