Default Towing question??

Hi I just bought my first truck a 2010 Ram 1500. I got a good deal on the truck, the only thing is it didn't come with a hitch reciever. I am ordering a hitch reciever from mopar, but my question is in the time that I'm waiting, would a hitch ball in the bumper be sufficient to tow my 16' ski boat (weighs between 1500-2000 pounds according to some research)

thank you in advance

i wouldn't recommend it. how long did they say till your hitch reciever comes in? personally i never trust the bumper, i'd rather have a reciever and know that by some fluke i'm not gonna have an oopsy. i do alot of towing and that's just my opinion/preference.

The bumper is rated for 5K and the ball actually goes through a tab on the frame when using the bumper mount. Problem is that you would have to have an awfully tall trailer for the bumper mount to be at the right height.

go to ebay and see if you can get a hitch oem cheaper than the dealer.

I just installed the add on hitch two weeks ago. easy install. The only things I don't like is the cap. sits higher than bumper, and the washer tends to push forward, making it tough for the cap to go on. I used a smaller width washer and placed chisels to the rear to keep the washer from sliding back. Its on good now. I bought the hitch from the dealer. I think I paid $148. You get all supplies and a nice rubber cap with the ram on it.
