The owners manual for my '09 says the axle change (if towing) is at 18k miles and the transmission fluid at 60k miles, does yours say 30K? Reason I ask, is when I called the dealer, they told me that the computer says the axle is at 15k and trans at 30k. When I mentioned my owners manual periods, the guy got all huffy and insisted on his numbers. I think they are 1) trying to make extra money and 2) making up stuff to deny future warranty claims.

I was told by my dealer a good while back that it was 30k for the tranny fluid change. They tried to get me to change it then saying there was a special at the time and I declined because I was no where near 20k much less 30k. Other than that I don't know the correct time frame for that or the rearend. I'm having the rearend inspected and fluid changed at the same because of what's going on with the pinion nut issues. I figure that it's best to let them do this for future life time warranty purposes...it's an 09. And that way they can't blame anyone but themselves if something does happen. 18k sounds a bit far fetched!

By the owners manual is what is required for warranty. Dealer can 'suggest' anything they want to but the book is the bible. Some shops and dealers alike have a hard time with things are generaly built better and fliuds are better then ever before. The maintance intervals are getting further and further out there. Mid 1970s and earlier spark plug life was 10,000 miles. Wheel bearing repacks were at 15000 miles and such. Lots of change in 30years or so.

I just went through my 09 owners manual and the first time the tranny fluid change comes up is at 60k miles and that's only if you use for other than normal driving. The next and only madatory tranny change is at 120k miles. I have not seen one mandatory rearend fluid change other than if you use it for purposes other than normal driving. But then again my service manual only goes up to 150k miles, lol! It does recomend that you check and inspect the rearend at several intervals, but never mentioning changing the rearend fluid until 120k. Does anyone see it differently in their 09 manual...I read it several times over thinking I missed something but I can't find anything different. So unless I missed something in in fine print, the 09 rearends should be covered until 120k miles under the life time warranty without having missed a mandatory fluid change. EDIT: Sorry...it never ever mentions a mandatory rearend fluid change, 120k is transmission only.
