Can't get wheels balanced
 

Well about 4 weeks ago I bought some new wheels, 22" DIP wheels with 305-45-22 Kuhmo tires. I have had them balanced by two different shop 4 different times and the damn truck still shakes at 70mph. The last time I had them Road Force Balanced and they still shake. Discount tire wants to mount some Yokohoma 345-45-22 and will let me road test them before paying. Has anyone else had a problem like this with 22" wheels and tires?

Yup, same problem with my 2010. I mounted 22" SRT10 Reproduction wheels and 305/45/22 Nitto NT420S tires. I have a vibration at about 15-30mph. It feels just like a bad u-joint. Then again at 60-70mph, also sounding like a high speed driveline vibration. I've had the rims and tires balanced twice as well. I thought it may have been a driveline vibration on the truck, so I put on the factory rims and tires and no more vibration at any speed, so it's definetly the new rims and tires. I'm not sure what to do, it's really annoying.

Have you had the tires indexed to the rims and then have them balanced from zero.

Did you remove the retaining clips that are on your wheel studs between the rotor and your wheel? Factory wheels have a clearance for this... aftermarket wheels usually do not. These will cause your wheels to not seat flush against the rotor and make it seem like an out of balance tire...

The stock Pirelli's on that came on the SRTs were known for shakes. Mine did it, I replaced the tires at 11K due to this. I put on General Grabber UHPs, smooth as can be.

I have the same problem on mine, new tires on 20" and vibrations.....gonna start with finding the unbalnced tire before going to the balnce shop.

Try some hub centric rings

The tires are probably "out of round" or not completely round

I have had the issue before on my Escalade with 24" rims. Using oversized wheels "out of round tires" becomes much more noticeable. The tires are considered factory blems and are quite commonly passed off as new tires by shops knowingly and sometimes unknowingly.

It happens when the tires are not stacked correctly and deform over time or are not created perfectly round which is actually a lot more common than you would think. Like you said Americas Tire Co will always mount and balance different tires free to see if you like them.

Yes, removed the clips. No change. I'm trying another shop next week. Maybe they have a bad balancing machine.
