Default What upgrades to do on new truck ?

Hey guys, i got a 2010 reg cab hemi. I am wondering what are some upgrades to do to my truck since i dont know that much about them. You all know my mds runs a little rough in the 40 mph range. Should i upgrade my exhaust ? Should i buy a performance chip and will it mess with my warranty. Just wanting to know what some of you guys do. Thanks

The window sticker tells you what gears were installed in your truck. I believe the choices are, 3.21, 3.55 and 3.92. You should have a professional install the gears if yours are not what you want. JMHO

I believe that the base gear set in most models is 3.55, perhaps the STs have 3.21 with the 17's and an option for like $375 is 3.92s with limited slip. If the gear option is not under the options portion of the window sticker, look under the standard features and it will tell what it is.

Changing gears after the fact is a big undertaking, that is what is frustrating about managers who order the trucks and don't know anything technical. IMO, 3.92s are a must with the 20's, which most trucks come with. The gear set is about $300, plus a $150 installation kit consisting of bearings, seals etc and then about 5-8 hours of professional labor. You can estimate about $1000 per axle to swap gears after the fact.

Well i just looked at my window sticker. I have a reg cab slt hemi with 20" wheels. It says under optional equipment that i have a 5.7 mds hemi then underneath says 3.21 axle ratio. Is this good or bad ? Does this hurt my speed or help it ? I didnt know anything about this, but this is how the truck came.

You have the worst gears from a performance stand point, but from an economy point of view, you have the best.

As a repeater, Doc says it best. There are endless possibilities that require endless amounts of money. I always fall back on the standard 3 to do first. CAI, free flow exhaust and a programmer. I'll be honest with you maxbob the CAI and exhaust let the truck breath better so you may see some MPG increases as well as HP but very minimal. The two together do give the Hemi a sweet sound though and that was worth it to me. The companies may give you figures in the 20-40 hp increase range, but I never realized that at all. I went with a superchips programmer and finally had good luck with an advanced program I installed after many that didn't. I can give you all the stats to set if you want, just let me know. This upgrade I could feel! The program may help with the 3.21 ratio, giving u a good low end punch your missing. Some guys hated and returned it and some swear by it. Im in the camp thats loyal to superchips, the customer service is great and they will take it back if your not happy. Not to drag on even though I always do, if your unhappy with the headlight performance as I was, just go to HIDextra.com and get a kit WITH the capacitors! I went through 4 sets of other "plug and play" kits before I got their kit that actually works. Any questions feel free to ask, there are a lot of guys with valuable knowledge on here. Good Luck and have fun with it!
