Default "oil change required" warning on 6.7 Cummins-2009 2500 Ram

I've got a 2009 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 Cummins. I too have noticed that my "oil change required" light comes on earlier than I'd like. My first warning came on after 7500 kms (4660 miles), but since it was my first oil change I figured I'd better just change it. Now after another 5900 kms (3700 miles) it came on again. The service guy just told me to resest it, which I had done already. My concern is this if the "oil change required" light comes on "based on your driving habits" as I've heard/read if I reset the warning then something happens is it going to be covered under warranty? I should also mention I live in Canada and have to go through several months of very cold weather (-22F/-30C) with cold starts, idling to warm up, and then I also have a fair bit of city driving involved as well. So I guess I'm asking should I suck it up and change the oil whenever the "oil change required" light comes on or stick with the 6mth/10,000kms that is recommended?! Any advice would be much appreciated!

From reading the literature that came with my truck. I understand the lifetime warranty as this. As long as you show documentation that your oil was changed every 10K kilometers, they cannot void your warranty. If your engine fails and you cannot show oil change receipts with vehicle mileage, Chrysler can void your warranty due to lack of maintenance. According to my sales person, the dealership can authorize the repair of a failed engine under warranty, but when Chrysler receives it and inspects the engine and deems the failure due to lack of maintenance they can deny the claim. This deny gets charged back to the dealership, and based on the dealership they could charge it back to the consumer.

They can also void your powertrain warranty if you don't have your vehicle inspected within 60 days before your 5 year anniversary. 5 years and 1 day from your bill of sale of your vehicle without the "$350 powertrain inspection" completed causes your warranty to void. (cost of inspection is according to my sales person as we were reviewing the pamphlet in an attempt to sell me a warranty).

I see the oil change light as a consumer reminder to change your oil and not a requirement.
