Default Oil Change Interval's

Okay so I have done my searching and can't seem to find a lot of good info about Oil change interval's. I just had my first Oil change and I swithed over to Mobile 1 Synthetic(recommended by dealer and a good friend) I had the dealer do the Oil change since they only charge me $13 for labor and $7 for the Mopar filter. Anyway here is my question, how often should I change the Synthetic Oil? My friend runs Mobile 1 in his Audi and he changes it between 4500 and 5000, my service guy said the same thing but then yesterday my service manager told me that he changes his at 6000 miles. I would like to be able to go 6000 miles but I have never run Synthetic oil before and I really do not know how long it last. FYI: I do about 70% city and 30% highway driving, no offroad driving and I am selling my boat so there will be no towing with this truck for now. Please respond and let me know what your Oil change interval's are so I can determine how long I want to go between oil changes. Thanks in advance for the comments.

No doubt that Mobil 1 is a good oil. Severe duty/weather areas like Arizona and Texas are running at 3000 mile intervals, while other/normal areas are 6000 to 7500 miles. The synthetic will handle the longer interval with no problem.

Modern oils (both synthetic and dino) hold up a lot longer than they used to. It's more a question of the filter failing before the oil actually losses it's protective properties.

Although I don't recommend it, I have a buddy who uses Amsoil in his Furd Truck (and I DO NOT recommend Amsoil for an MDS equipped engine), who changes his filter every 5k and just tops off the oil, doing a full oil change only after 20k miles.

Personally, my rule of thumb is conventional every 3k, and a 100% synthetic every 6k. But if you are gonna go every 6k, then don't cheap out on the filter. I like Wix (NAPA Gold), Purolator Pure 1 and Mobil 1, in that order...

I saw a survey sometime back but, I can't remember where, (Of course) where Mobil One Syn'. was used for over 15K miles. In the past I have gone 8K miles changing the filter at 4K-5K. I never skimp on the filter!

Hammer, does Mopar filter find it's way into your recommended filter's? I remember when I was in High School I worked at a gas station and all they ever used in there service trucks was WIX filter's. I do not even know where to get one of them around here. Do they sell them at the chain auto stores?
