Default Any benefit to using 91 Octane as opposed to 87 on Hemi

I know the manual calls for midgrade 89 on my 2010 Hemi 2500. In the past with other vehicles I have owned mainly late model sportscars, that called for 87 or 89 there was no benefit to running 91 because the vehicle wasn't tuned to run on anything higher than 89 so essentially it was just a waste of money. Anyone have any input? And on the other side of the spectrum is there any real disadvantage to running 87? I did some reasearch but can't conclude just exactally how sensitive the hemi motor is and if there are any real advantages/disadvantages to premium or even 87.

That is the consensus here on this forum. 91 octane is a waste of money. Some use 87 exclusively. Some use 89 exclusively. I use 87 when prices are getting high, like now. I have noticed no performance issues with 87 verses 89. I personally think its stupid by Dodge to say either 87 or 89. Make up your damn mind (Dodge) and publish it!

If I'm really going to beat on it, I'll put premium in. Otherwise it's nothing but the cheap stuff! I can't tell a difference, and calculating out the mileage shows no noticeable difference.

I went from the DS 93 tune to the DS87 tune, the 93 tune and stock tune with 89 gave about the same milage. the stock and 93 compared to the 87 tune with 87 gas, were blown away. the DS 87 tune with 87gas has been the best milage so far

Our vehicles are designed for 89, will work on 87, as per what the manual said. Now with that said, if you install one of these 91/93 tunes from SuperChips, etc, I would use 91/93.Just my 2 cents.

When I first bought the Ram, I used 91. I got 1 mpg less than 87 and got 1 MPG more with 89, did'nt see any performance difference between the grades. Don't recall any pinging though, maybe if my radio was'nt on a little loud, lol lol there might've been some pinging.

I run regular unleaded in my 2010 and have had no problems. By the way regular unleaded in West Texas is sold as 86 Octane!! No issues. If I put it in my boat, in knocks and pings like crazy. Im stickin with the cheap stuff until I notice an issue.

besides with special tunes or high performace vehicles all factory vehicles have to be able to run on 87 octane. I personaly run 89, but ran 87 a lot in my 05 hemi, even with the superchips performance tune and never had any issue.I'm not sure about any gas milege advantages, dont pay any attention to it.
