Default Auto headlamps question and HIDs

Hi,

2010 Rams have a feature called 'automatic headlights'. I'm wondering if that means just that they turn on and off as ambient light levels dictate, or if they also automatically control the hi/low beams based on oncoming traffic? My Jeep has the style that automatically changes the hi and low beams as needed when cars approach or as you come up behind someone. I'm not sure I'm a big fan of it.

Anyway, if the Ram does have this auto hi/low control, how well does that play with HID lights? Does it interfere with the dimming effect or does it cause delays as the lights transition?

Thanks,
Rob

I love automatic gadgets but there are some things I would rather do myself and that includes having control of the high beams. I never had a car with auto high beams but I would guess that they would tick off on coming drivers if they failed to dim when they were supposed to.

Yep, that happens. The system is actually pretty smart when it comes to actual vehicles on the road with you as long as you are not on a curve. Curves screw the sensor up (can't see the other car) and so do street lights, stop lights, or any other types of roadside lighting. It is a feature I can definitely do without and I won't miss it.

Thanks,
Rob
