tire feathering
posted same question on other board but maybe some aren't on both:
I have noticed my front tires are feathering, I rotate them regularly but looking at the tires on the back they show some wear also, now that I have noticed it you can hear it with the radio off and windows down at about 30 miles an hr. I took it to a good front in alignment shop and for 75 dollars he fixed a tow-in problem. My question is will the tires wear down even now? I thought maybe reversing the rotation by putting left on right side vice versa might help, tires are the 275 60r20 rwl goodyears that came on it but only have about 20000 miles on them, new set is over a $1000.00 out the door

Once material/rubber is lost from a area the wear will always be uneven. The rate of wear stays the same.High or low spots.Dosen't matter. So no it will not fix itself once that rubber is gone. The tire can't grow rubber in the low spots or wear faster in the high spots to even out.
I rotate as needed.I look at my tires if looking god I leave alone. Have for decades. If lots of highway miles they go many miles before rotating. If more city driving or lots of curvy winding roads rotate a lot more often.Been 12k since I rotated last on the 09 1500.
Smart man. leave well enough alone if they are wearing even why change a good thing. You might move them and all of a sudden you will have a vibration in the steering wheel or the truck will start pulling one way or the other. I have own hundreds of tires due to owning a courier company years ago and well I was young and made too much money but I never cheaped out on tires and could not rotate because my van was the coolest courier van around, sounded like a rock concert coming down the street. Had a large box of condoms in a compartment built for speakers with removable doors, box of man size Kleenex for snotty noses, eyelashes, whatever LOL. I loved BFG and Dunlop tires. They wore fast but wore even and even though a soft compound I got more miles out of them due to the even wear. An alignment once a year or so helps too. That too can be a mistake, doesnt' pull now but after alignment steering wheel not straight other stuff. If I want the front end checked out in the first few years just go to the dealer and tell them there is a vibration in the front end and for free they tell me nothing is wrong or they fix something under warranty. Becomes warranty as part of the extended warranty.
these trucks require 4 wheel alignment.

BMW doesn't even recommend rotating the tires because of the way it may change the overall vehicle dynamics - once the tires wear in a specific location on the car, moving it to another location will cause a change. Of course, the 540 I had had wider tires in the rear anyway, so left to right was the only option, and the tires were directional.
Check with the local Discount tire you should be able to get these tires out the door for $800 to $850. My truck was pulling left but the alignment was straight according to the machine. I had him swap the two front tires and the truck drives straight as can be. Tires will cause some funny stuff like said above, vibrations even though they are balanced, pulls, you name it.
