Default Tranny Fluid Too Full??

I took my truck in for an oil change and when they checked my tranny fluid they told me it was too full and I had to book an appointment to get some taken out. Will this harm my tranny? I have noticed since the weather has warmed up that when I change from reverse to drive it takes a second for it to engage and I am also finding that when I am going up a hill it is downshifting alot earlier than it used to.
Will having too much tranny fluid damage the tranny? Just so I know in case I end up having tranny problems in the future.

How did too much oil get in there? How many miles on the truck? Couldn't they have taken out some tranny oil while doing your engine oil change? Is this being done at a dealer or third party outlet? It just seems there is something strange going on here. Do you trust them?

I bought the truck second hand. It only had 13,000km on it when I got it. It now has 23,000km. I get my oil changed at my dealership. Its one of those quick lubes but it is at the dealership. I am wondering if there was some tranny work done to it before I got it. I have purchased 3 vehicles from this particular dealership and I do trust them. I am just worried that this will damage my tranny.
