Trailer Mirrors or not?
Will I need trailer mirrors on an 8ft wide camper? The truck is 79inches, does that include mirros or just wheel to wheel? state law in wi says you need to see 200ft back...
What mirror adapters do you recomend? I dont want to have HUGE mirrors for everyday so I would like extenders if possible.

I have the factory trailer tow mirrors and love them, they are great for towing (can see 200 ft back), and are great for everyday driving (the parabolic mirror on the outside makes it very easy to parallel park etc....), they dont stick out too far, I have yet to have a problem in parking garages in dc
Just towed my RV for first time. Without extension mirrors one way and with them the next.
Much preferred the visibility WITH mirrors especially on the pax side.
$30 for a pair that I use 3 or 4 times a year.

Couple of brands available that look similar to the pic below.

Is this a slide on camper? If so, then you definitely need either towing mirrors or extenders. My experience with extenders, is that they vibrate a lot and are mostly useless at highway speeds other than to give you an idea someone is behind you. When backing into campsites they work well.
If you tow a short trailer, then you can get away without towing mirrors, especially if there are some bends on the road here and there.
I tow an 19L x 8W foot trailer and have a set of OEM towing mirrors that I had the dealer install. The mirrors work well but are longer even in the slid in position. I took them off because for everyday driving, they add a big blind spot on the passenger side and my wife kept having problems with them.
It only takes about 15 minutes a side to install them so I figured I would put them on before my RV trips and take them off when I got home. Well, it turns out that we just got back from a 2000 mile RV trip without them and I was OK without the mirrors. A few times I wished I had them but for the most part I was OK. I did not need the towing mirrors for lane changes but I really couldn't see close behind me unless there was a bend in the road.
So if anyone is interested, I have some OEM mirrors cheap in southern California.

I'm currently towing a 8.5 ft wide car hauler 2500 km, i have been able to make do without them. You can see next to the trailer and what's coming up in the lane next to you.

they actually slide out too?....I cant seem to get mine to slide out...
they look like the mirrors could slide, but ive pulled on them pretty hard and cant get them to budge
If they are the factory mirrors, they slide out 4 inches for towing and back in for regular use.

Well, some do and some don't. At some point Dodge apparently switched from a slide-out type trailer towing mirror to the flip up style that the HD trucks have had for a few years. I know the 2010 brochure showed the slide-out style but by the time I ordered in April they were using the flip-up style. I really like the flip-up ones, except for the large convex portion. It will take a while to get used to that.
