Ram vs Tundra Face Off..
I pulled up beside my Bro the other day in his Tundra 4x4 Quad Cab. He had just left the lights and was maybe doing 20k, when I slowed beside him, he punched it and got a bit of a jump on me. I floored it, and with my 3.55's and 315's, I didn't take him. He never walked away either which he thought he would. Now, an uneven rolling start isn't the best test, but I doubt I would eat him alive..... that is, if I even took him at all. Both trucks have stock engines, I have 315's and he has larger tires as well, not as big a difference as I went with, but he isn't stock either.
Just for comparison.
Just for comparison.
My dad has a Tundra and I have had a Tacoma years. Point being Toyota makes great vehicles... Reliable and powerful... I bought my 2010 Ram 1500 and am tickled but I will say both trucks have ample power. What sets the Dodge apart is the plush interior and the better MPG's. My point is who cares who is a truck length in front of the other when they can both do the job fantastically. Day-to-day no one is racing and all that matters is that they can pull what we need to and haul what we need to... They both have incredible power compared to what we had say in 2001 (like my 2001 Ram 1500). I'm just glad I'm not getting 12.5mpg's anymore on the highway with a full engine less
worth of power like I had with my 01 ram. Just my thoughts.... No question... Love my Ram, but I definitely don't hate the Tundra...

I dont hate them either, but the difference most times is the ( 4:30) gears in the Tundra, that is a huge difference, and we are still right there, the 4:30 in the Ram would make it faster everytime, my neighbor had installes the 4:56 gears and he has 20:s on it, I was with him when the Tundra, next to him could not stay with him, we stopped at a store, and he pulled in next to him we saw his engine and he saw ours, they were both stock, but gearing was closer, when we left him it was not a slow steady pull it was a VIOLENT ,jerk and pass...........

Your tuner was the difference. I hear nothing but good things about your tuning solutions. It should have been a lot closer. ATM we are extremely limited to custom tuning, and both are piggy backs that require custom tuning with custom tuners being far and few in between. Crank HP numbers mean squat since both trucks put down damn near identical numbers to the ground. And our so called "LSD" isnt a true LSD and actually sucks *****.
Did you brother have his Nannies off? Huge difference in performance and not many tundra owners know how to set up their rides for racing. And depending on if it was an 07 or 08+, the procedures are different (totally stupid). Not making excuses for your brother since i have a tundra myself, but i have heard these races going both ways with the driver being the difference most of the time, and neither actually blows the other out of the water. Run him again stock tune and it should be closer, not saying you wont still win, but it would be closer. And if he is 400 pounds heavier, that is actually quite a bit. I may be wrong but i heard for every 100 pounds = 1 tenth.
R/T's are another animal. I'd love to run one. I dont expect to win, but man it'd be a cool race. Not all tundras come with 4.30 gears. Mine came with 4.10 since i have a sport package.

All I am saying is even if he did win when I was in stock mode, I wouldn't be too impressed because he has 4.30 gears. Had my truck ran 4.30 gears, I think Dodge utilizes the Hemis power to the wheels way more efficiently. But like you said a lot of it comes down to the driver. Had it been a Ford racing either of us, we could have stopped and got a soda and still have won, but with these two monsters you really do need to be solid with your truck. Also, he has only had his 2010 for a week today so he still has some getting to know his shift points etc. My guess is with out my tune, and with his experience, the race could could either way. But anyway, theres a lot of variable on the table that can be accounted for including his extra weight, bigger frame and his then his bigger gears. Im happy I won though
Plus I paid 8 grand less than him so that makes me happy, though I did put $4,000 into it so w.e!

Don't put too much emphasis on his 4.30 gears. They may help get out of the hole better, but it hurts in the top end. Toyota put that in for towing, although it does make for some awesome seat of the pant feeling. 3.90-4.10 is kinda where ya wanna be performance wise. You get a little bit of both top end and bottom end.
You make a good point, although I would say the next size up gears for my Ram would be nice because I do about once a month or two tow a 8,000 lb excavator or skid steer for about 7 miles. It handles it quite well but the extra out of the hole torque could be a tad better with some chunkier gears. But like you said, I get great top end throttle response mid and top range. His truck is quite cool tho, it snaps hard, very wound up. But nothing the hemi couldnt handle
