Default 4.7L Eco Mode?

I have a 2010 Crew Cab with the 4.7L and the odometer has a selection for Eco Mode. Under light throttle, the display says "Eco Mode ON" and under heavy throttle, it switches off. Is this just a gas saving feature telling me when my throttle position is most efficient? I know Eco Mode on the Hemi involves the multiple displacement feature, but I didn't think the 4.7 was equipped with that?

On another note, I previously owned a 2002 Quad Cab with a 4.7L, and I'm not sure if was geared differently or what, but my low-end torque seems to be much lower with the 2010. Is the gearing likely the culprit, or is the electronic throttle just less responsive than the older models?

The 4.7L was redesigned around 2008/2009. I can't remember which model year. Anyway, comparing your 2002 4.7L to your 2010 4.7L isn't a fair comparison. Not only are they different vehicles with different weights and electronic throttle calibrations, but the 2010 has more HP and torque than the previous generation 4.7L. Then again, the 2002 might not of even had electronic throttle control. I think that came out in 2003 with the launch of the Hemi.

The 02 4.7 trucks used a 4 speed transmition where I think the new ones use the 5 speed. I also think that the ECO light is just to let you know you are under light load. I have never heard anything saying the 4.7 would shut off cylendars
