Default Chrome removal on plastic trim

Finally...a solution to blinding reflections in the Ram Cab.

Found several techniques to accomplish chrome removal on plastic trim parts.

Soak in clorox bleach for 30 minutes or until chrome dissolves.

Soak in brake fluid until chrome dissolves but some users report damage to plastic.

Spray oven cleaner and let sit until chrome dissolves - same precaution as above

Then prime and paint or light sand if the color of the plastic suits ya.

I'll try a test and let you know how it works.

Brake fluid didn't dissolve it after 2 hours. Softened it some but not much.

Why not just paint it?

I painted the trim ring on the console shift gate but I wanted to try removal on:

1. Steering wheel ram head

2. Console lid release handle

3. Door panel arm rest handle trim strips,

Never seen anyone so against chrome. Why the need to strip the chrome. There are primers that go over chrome.

Blinding, distracting reflections.

Paint has a tough time sticking to plastic and even tougher time to chrome.

Just scuff the chrome with a scotchbrite pad, then spray a coat of green etching primer from Pep Boys, or Wal Mart. You can topcoat whatever you want without peeling.
