trailer brake settings.
Ok, so I put the integrated module in my 10 truck and pulled a 24ft camper for the first time ever, not just for the truck. The brake works slick but I have a question on how to use them.
I know if you push the slider it applies the brakes manually.
when you push the brake I see it applies brake based on how hard I push on the truck brake.
What is the manual settings? it defaults to 5.0 but goes to 9.0? does this mean the MAX it will apply? so no matter how hard I push my brakes it wont go past 5.0?

Im right with you. I put a module in my 09 this past winter for my double axle snowmobile trailer. Now this isnt a pro talking, but what I did was trial and error. Hooked up I hit the brakes full on and the trailer wheels locked. I continued to lower the setting till the trailer stopped with the truck. Ive only used the manual lever when it starts to get sideways on slick roads and ease it back to straighten out. Im sure there is someone here who knows the exact details of the settings, but this worked for me.
Hook up your trailer and find a straight, flat, quiet stretch of road. Drive 25 mph and apply just the trailer brakes. Increase the setting until the trailer brakes start to lock up and then back it off just enough so they don't lock up and you're done. If you pull different trailers you need to find the setting for each one. If you pull your trailer a lot you will need to readjust the setting occasionally as the brakes wear in.
That's the way I do it
Me too, although, out on the highway I will sometimes turn it up a bit. You just need to remember to turn it back down when slowing and aproching cities or the brakes will lock up on you. Out on the highway, you can get away with it....
ok - please clarify, so if I am driving 25MPH with it set at 5.0 just move the slider and watch until it skids.. so say it skids a 7, then when I pull that trailer I put it at 7? The Slider will always boost to max regardless of the settings?
You want to be able to move the slider all the way (maximum trailer brake) without locking up the wheels. It's a bit of trial and error. If you have it set at 5 and you move the slider all the way and the brakes don't lock, increase the setting until they do lock with the slider all the way and then back off the setting just enough so the wheels don't lock up. The idea is so that if you panic stop and stand on your brakes you will get maximum trailer braking without locking up the trailer brakes.
