Default 2010 Ram reversed jumper cables

Hello Everyone. I'm brand new to the forum. I just bought a new 2010 Dodge Ram Quad Cab ST. Our mower battery was dead the other day so we went to jump it. My wife hooked up the lawn mower and I hooked up the truck side. Anyways after sparks fly my wife says Oops. Anyways the truck was not running and I quickly removed the cables. I know I should have connected the cables myself and trust me I've learned my lesson. I appear to have no problems after this happened. Is there anything that may have happend that I possibly would not notice right away?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

if anything you probably fried the battery on you mower wont really hurt the truck since the sparks werent on the truck battery i am assuming.

If its running OK and everything works then you didnt hurt anything, usually the vehicle with the dead battery is the one that gets hurt when you cross the cables.

Thanks for the replies guys. The sparks were actually from my truck. Even indented the battery terminal from the jumper cable. Glad to hear that everything is probably fine though. This is my first new vehicle and my first dodge ram so I worry.

Why do you worry? We have one of the best warranties out there, plus these trucks are not the same generation that had all of the problems. I have had mine for six months and I love it more everyday.

Thumbs up

If you don’t see any physical damage (other than char marks and specks) on the terminals that you’re fine (I know those stock terminals can be pretty flimsy).
The rest of the truck probably experienced a momentary “brown out”, not unlike disconnecting the battery momentarily, there’s nothing wrong with that - service manuals have you disconnecting the battery to check the tire pressure.

may want to replace the terminal out of pocket though just to play it safe, if you do have electrical issues, that way when you take it in for service they don't see that and know what that is, and try and blame whatever electrical issue you are having on mis hooking up the cables

Great idea! Don't give the dealership any reason to deny a claim. Might cost you $200 bucks for a Mopar battery but well worth it in my opinion.

does not even have to be a mopar battery, just a new battery. but I would go with a new mopar one.

Actually I would change it out to the Interstate Megatron which has 850 cold cranking amps vs the rest of the batteries which have only 600 cca.
