Anyone have some 3.92's they don't need? Maybe someone who moved up to something else?

I have an OEM set for the rear but the ring gear has one tooth with a 1/2 inch chip in it. Well, it was running fine before I replaced it with a 4.10.

$100 bucks if your interested and I'm 10 miles south of Austin.

'Tis a shame you weren't looking about 8 months ago. I got tired of tripping over the box in storage and needed cash to pay Xmas credit card bills and sold my 3.92s (19k miles on 'em, mint condition) in the classifieds on here for $150 shipped - FRONT & REAR sets. Guy who bought them only wanted the rears (4x2 owner) but I wouldn't break 'em up. He bought the set, if memory serves, this guy inquired about them about 20 minutes after I posted 'em up, and Pay Pal'd me the $ the next day...

Used gears in a daily driver = bad idea. You'll never get the pattern back to exactly where they wore in the first time.

Ring and pinion are a matched set. You can't ever just replace one, even if you had a ring from the same ratio.

Yep, I've never heard where you couldn't run used gears, my old man, uncle and grandfather were mechanics by trade, they even ran cars at the local track from the '60s thru early '80s. They were forever swapping gear sets.

I know my old man put a used set of 5.sumthin' gears in an old CJ5 he had easily ran them 100k+ miles.

Only thing I've ever been told is that the ring and pinion had to remain together, couldn't mix and match, so I'd say no-go on getting the set with the broken tooth and trying to find just a ring...

I didn't say you couldn't run them, just that its not a good idea in a daily driver. It's really hard if not impossible to set up a used set of gears so that they don't make noise. I've setup and run used gears in my jeeps and streetrod, but they make so many other noises that a little gear whine isn't even going to be heard

Alright, I'll just pick up some new gears if that's the path I take. No biggie.

Two options:

1. Replace the entire axle assembly with OEM gears already set up. $1,300 for parts. DIY project

Best Dealer Discounts at Wyatt Arp Parts in Seguin (830) 303-3005

2. Have OEM gears installed by a reputable shop $1,100

Best shop along the I-35 corridor is in San Antone as reported by another member.
