Crap, sounds like my manifold bolts must have broke. About 6000 miles ago I had an oil change at a dealer who said that the RRT for manifold bolts needed to be done on my truck and that they would have to order the bolts. Forgot all about it, last oil change was done at a different dealer last monday (2500 miles ago). Start the truck up this morning and it sounds like my 53 Ford. Definitely have an exhaust leak in the engine compartment.
Guess I'll have to get on dealer #1 and see if they ever got the bolts, and if they have more since if you break one they have to replace them all.
The issue is that the rear 2 exhaust manifold studs break off. When this happens, the exhaust manifold studs and bolts need to be replaced and the gasket.
Is the issue that the bolts break or that they loosen up? So far so good on my 09, never recieved any word about the RRT for these bolts.
They wont contact you about rrt's they will however check for them when you are in for service or you can call your dealer and with your phone number they can find your vehicle and tell you if there are any RRT's TSB's or Recalls.
Just had mine fixed too. My truck hasnt been to the dealership since I bought it. Got it in there at 35,850 miles, they had it for a week fixing ****. The ticking was driving me insane.
ive been noticing a ticking sound as i go by other vehicles.
kinda like when you hit the reflectors on the road stripes.
could this be my issue, too?
According to the service manual there are 8 on each manifold, which would be pretty normal for a V8.
If you start the truck up cold in the morning and step outside the truck, you'll hear it if it is the broken studs. The sound is loudest when the engine is cold, and on mine went mostly away when it got good and heated up.
we usualy replaced the broken studs, the gasket, and the manifold itself aswell because the reason the studs broke is a result of the manifold warping.
