I just bought a 2010 with the Hemi motor. No complaints as I only have 1500 KM one it. I did notice the inside of the tail pipe was black. Most new vehicles run so clean that there is no deposits in the tail pipe. I was wondering if this is normal in a new truck or if there might be a problem?
Carbon is a byproduct of burning hydrocarbon based fuels like gasoline. New vehicles are no exception to the laws of thermodynamics. Its completely normal.
Mine did the same thing every now and then but stopped at around 10k mls. It's been clean ever since and with 18k mls now on it I believe that it could be the type of fuel and the break in period...not sure but it makes sense.
Dealership told me that the computer controls engine output for the first 1000 KM and also up to 10,000 km for a proper break-in period. This may have something to do with the black in the tail pipe.
The truck run perfectly and although gas mileage is not great, it is what I expected. So I agree 1954Radio I don't think there is a problem. I was just concerned at first as I have not seen black in the tail pipe for many years. My 2002 Dakota with the 4.7 was always clean.
I bought a 2008 Mustang GT new and the tailpipe (inside) is as clean as when I bought it. No soot what so ever. Maybe its a hemi thing. I need to check my truck that I bought in April.
