Default Another Towing Review...

We just got back from Knoebles in PA. I live in NJ. It was about a 4 hour ride through some steep inclines and drops. I towed a 31ft Rockwood that weighed in at about 7100 lbs, I also had our golf cart in the bed, adding another 700lbs. So all in with the wife and kids we were at about 8300 lbs. I added the firestone airbags which worked great!! I was very pleased with how the truck handled. on the highway I forgot the trailer was behind me. Power was smooth. I espesially liked how the trans downshifted in tow mode heading down hills. Go up hills the truck held it speed and gear except for one very steep hill I had to step in the gas a bit more to get it to kick to a lower gear. I was able to hold 60 to 65 mph with comfort on the highways. I averaged 9.5 MPG.

We only make this trip once a year so while I know I am at the limits for the 1500 it made no sense to get a 2500 for once a year but after this trip I must say the Ram is very capable of towing at its limits just fine!!

I have attached a pic.

Hey, another Knoeble's fan!!! I love that place. Wife got mad when I wanted to go there for our honeymoon. I am also in the market for a camper. Glad to know we can tow them with no problem.

Great to hear all went well. I have a trailer also but haven't towed to speak of with the RAM.

What kind of WD hitch have you got on that?? Anti Sway?? Factory trailer brakes???

What is the final drive ratio??

TIA
