Exclamation back to the dealer....its bad this time...

well i got my shroud for my fan fixed under warrenty. no problem.

a week later, im back in the dealer. this time....it took me forever to get there. going 12 miles, under 20 MPH, with no brakes.

i went fishing the other day at the lake, and while leaving, i saw a guy that needed pulled out of the mud. i hooked him up and went to pull him out. his strap was on my tow hitch, no biggy. 4WD obviously. after starting to pull, i heard a loud noise, like metal breaking. i wasnt going fast or in anything heavy, about 2 inches of mud on flat ground. so i finished pullin him out and looked under my truck. and saw something hanging that shouldnt have been.

took it to the dealer and this is what they told me...

this is the front driver side....

Censor is ripped out of hub bearing
Axel is snaped on left side
Brake lines ripped out
Brake lines need flushed

the dealer didnt want to send it up for a warrenty and get in trouble if it got kicked back. so i called chrysler myself and they put in a work order. i also had my insurance company go down and take pictures. the dodge dealer said i hit something to cause all of this, with me knowing there was nothing hit. no rocks, no bumps, NOTHING. it just snapped. come to say, i am pretty fired up about this. i really hope chrysler takes care of this situation under my warrenty. my lift has nothing to do with this, they already came to that conclusion. although, i did have to contact pro-comp to get new brake lines, free of charge of course.

could anyone let me know what the heck happend here? a guy was telling me our truck is really a 3 WD vehicle, and when the passenger front tire slips, the left front tire will kick in. he said it might have had too much torque to that wheel at the time, which caused the snap of the axel. which doesnt make sense because i wasnt going fast or having high RPMs.

i hope chrystler takes care of this under warrenty, they should for faulty axel, because i do not want to pay a deductable through my insurance...

Looks like I'm the first one with axel problems...

PLEASE, someone help!

Which part of the front axle broke, and were your front wheels turned at all when it broke? Pretty easy to snap shafts in mud, especially if you get traction all of the sudden. Larger/heavier than stock wheels and tires also make it a lot easier to snap shafts.

If you have insurance that would pay for a broken axleshaft, I'd like to know where you got it.

That sucks bro...

Insurance should cover it... if you cannot get warranty to cover it...

Bet you they do not based on your larger than stock tires, especially if you took it by Star. Had the same problem when I broke my axle on my 04... oh you must have hit something... nope. Well it is your over size wheels then... nope. well just get your insurance to pay for it... which is why I do not use that dealership.

Insurance will not cover you for anything that you break while trying to do something other than normal driving, unless of course you somehow hit a tree while doing this but even that I would not tell them you were pulling someone out of trouble, just say a dog jumped out and you swerved and the tree jumped in front of you. Wow you must be young guys or insurance works way different in the US.

Insurance will cover it, if your company is worth a damn.

Not that young and pretty sure it works slightly, but not that different in the US.

If the dealership (what we in the military call "subject matter experts") rules it collision damage then it counts as a collision. Which, weirdly, is covered by the "collision" portion of you insurance.

My step daughter's Pontiac bottomed out the oil pan on a rough road, got a hole in it, ran the engine out of oil. Insurance paid for it. (salvage yard special) Car was sold later! Sunfires, one problem after another, that problem was not Pontiac error tho. Just everything else that broke on it. A 6" lift doesn't weeken the axle, or leave you with less spline area? I would think it would, but I honestly never messed with a lift. Changed a few FWD trans tho.

Lift will change angles and put funky side loads on the system... this is more a problem for c/v & u-joints than axles though.
