Default Question concerning changing muffler in '10 hemi

I'm sure it has been addressed on this forum in the past but I have not been able to locate anything recently. I bought a 2010 Quad Cab with the 5.7 hemi and big horn with dual exhaust. I am interested in changing the muffler so I can get more sound out of my exhaust. I have heard that changing the exhaust on the hemi is a bad idea because there is a bad humming noise when the engine goes to 4 cylinders. My Question is, is there a muffler that can be put on that gives more sound but does not create this humming noise I have been told about?

Also, more specifically, I am interested in some deeper, louder sound when I give it some gas but don't want the sound to be very audiable at cruising speeds.

Thanks for any advise.

I have the Mufflex on my truck. (Not the real loud one...) and I get no highway drone on mine.

I believe the loudest is the 14". Do you have the 18" or 24"?

I just put on an 18" Magnaflow and left the resonator on. Very mild sound when cruising, but throaty when you accelerate. The only thing that bothers me is that it almost sounds like the exhaust is underwater when the MDS kicks in. Not overly annoying but you can tell it doesn't have all 8 cyl behind it when you hear it. Other than that I love the sound. Not too loud at all.....my 3 month old loves it! Puts her to sleep in seconds every time Hehe......

I have a 2010 1500 SLT with the flowmaster 50 Series HD muffler, no drone at all when going to 4 cylinders. You can tell a difference almost like it is underwater like Medic1 said. I have heard that the 40 Series has a horrible drone when on the highway, but have not experienced it first hand. The 50 series HD was made for hemi's. It sounds deep and great when you step on it, not too loud but not too quiet.

I would check out some videos on youtube and see which one you like best. It is hard to tell on a video but it gives you an idea of the difference between flowmaster vs magnaflow or 40 series vs 50 series

Default Upgraded muffler

Any gain or loss of power noticeable anywhere in the powerband or do you think it just sounds more powerfull?

Well I also have a cold air intake with my exhaust so it pulls more than before. Some power but not a major increase. I can see a little difference in gas mileage with both but my truck only has 1300 miles on it. The exhaust sounds great though. No need for new pipes just change the muffler. 245$ total parts and labor at a local shop. If you go with the flowmaster I would go with the 50HD series. I am not sure what other people think, but even though the 40 series is louder I was told that it has the horrible drone. Everyone likes something different though, so ask around.

Ordered a Mufflex 18" the other day based on the video on their website but I only have a single exit. Haven't checked the dual exhaust video though. Be worth a look for you if they have one.
