Post Engine Hours

Besides the remote window down feature using the keyfob, another feature many people do not know about is Engine Hours. GM, Ford, and Dodge have this feature with slight differences in the way to get the number. For my last three Dodge vehicles, all I had to do was ...

Get in the car, close the door, and turn the key to ON without starting (I believe GM vehicles allow the door to be open).
Press your trip odometer stick until you see the vehicle odometer miles.
Finally, press and hold the trip odometer stick until the hours are displayed (3-5 seconds seems like 10).

Note: On my Charger, one more press after engine hours would give me another number "h" that very slowly counted up (I think it was only at 25 after 3.5 years of driving). I never did figure out what that second number was. My Ram only does the number for engine hours (pressing the stick again goes back to miles). Also note that I only had the basic display, not the fancy large display with individual tire pressures and other data, so maybe the fancy one has more information.

I like to track all the data for my vehicle.

My 2010 has it in the EVIC as well. I kinda do not like it because if you take it by the miles driven you find your average speed. For me it is like 35 which means a lot of city driving. Good tool if you are a buyer and want to know what your buying but bad if your a seller IMO.

Default Its been around a long time

My last three vehicles have had it.

35 miles/engine hour isn't bad. I've seen cars in the teens, so I'm sure there are many lower than that.

I think engine hours is an OK statistic. I think I would rather see the number of idle hours instead. I'm suprised they don't show both, then again I don't have a diesel engine in my truck.

As far as engine hours - does anyone use this as a gauge for oil changes?

Also anyone know what a Recall # K17 is - my dealership emailed me and said its time for yearly inspection and recall K17 is not complete? Any ideas?

Thanks

The company I work for does ALL maintenance by engine hours and ignores mileage completely (except to check your miles per engine hour). The most common maintenance is the LOF which is done every 100 hours. It actually works out to be pretty close to 4000 miles every 100 hours for me.
