Default Backup Camera Quality survey

I had recently installed the OEM Mopar Backup Camera kit. Installed beautifully and looks great.

Daytime picture looks fine but at night the picture is fuzzy or looks as if to have black and white interference, or better yet a snowy immage.

Anybody else notice this?

My Sport came with this option. It works fine.....except its like looking through the peephole in a hotel room door. It's such a wide field that I can't see it being of any practical use for backing up. The backup lights illuminate things well enough at night, but I wish it had a "closer" lens.

Yes mine is factory and it has the snowy picture but only @ night!!! I believe the lights have interference of some sort...

But then again I had a Aspen and it too did the same...

There is a OEM camera kit you can install? I have an early build Laramie that does not have the camera option, but I would love to get it. Did you install the kit yourself or have the dealer do it? How much does it cost?

As I mentioned above, I installed the factory OEM camera. It comes as a kit complete with a new tailgate handle with camera pre-installed, all the wiring and radio harness. Also comes with idiot proof instalation instructions.

Anyone with a bit of knowhow can acomplish the install in 1 1/2 hrs.

I then brought it to the dealer to flash the radio in order to turn the cam on. Cost me $350 for the cam and $50 to flash.

Mine is a OEM and works great except when there is moisture on the lens or sun reflecting into it. I use my camera for hooking up to trailers and it works great day or night.

Personally, I mainly use mirrors and park assist except when I want to see how close I can get to my wife's jeep before tapping it.

It's due to the low light. Have you ever turned on a webcam on you computer when the light sucks? Its about the same. The only light you get is from the backup lights, brake lights or ambient. Not really that bad, obviously not as good as when the light is brighter, but I don't think its a problem.

I installed a Pioneer ND-BC20PA camera. It works great day and night, the viewing angle can be changed with a push of a button. A bit expensive, but worth it....(I also installed a Pioneer Avic-120bt navigation head unit, cause the mygig sucks).

Oh..... and with the Pioneer ND-BC20PA, you can view while driving forward too...maybe a useful feature if you want to keep an eye on your trailer while driving.

I put some Sharp CCD with infrared and day vision is spectacular and night vision is clear, after market camera's hooked up with LOCK PICK.
