We've just ordered the Bakflip F1 for our truck.
Was thinking, when it will be on, the work light on top of the cab won't illuminate if I just open the tailgate.
So thinking about setting some kind of lights in the bed, preferably "hidden", just to be able to see in there!

Would also love for them to turn on when I open the tailgate and off when I close it!

Any ideas?

How/where do I run the wires?

I installed one Oznium LED light strip under each bed rail. I think I put in the 28" version. Then wired it direct to the cargo light circuit. Total price was around $50 and now the bed lights up when the cargo light is on.

Go to the auto parts store and pick up two +12V light(s) that fit under the bed rails. Remove one of the tail lights (2 screws and they come right off). Run the wire(s) from the lights under the bed rails into the cavity where the tail light was. Use a fuse in line to a switch that triggers when you open the tailgate (they sell these at any auto parts store). Run the wire down to underneath of the bed and connect to the hot +12V at the 7 pin trailer connector. The hardest part is the switch, depending on the mount, you will need to drill a hole.

Once you remove the tail light, this will make a lot more sense.

I hooked up a light in my camper shell this way, except my light is on a manual switch.

 

In the center brake light/cargo light itself. I ran the wire under the rubber seal around the rear window, then down to the bottom of the bed and back up inside to where it comes out under the bed rail. I ended up with a small 3" section of wire showing below the rear window, but it is black so it blends in. Probably not as slick as going from the bed under the cab and up to the fusebox but it works for me.
