The owner's manual tells you about the major drop in mileage if you switch to E85 (I think it said 30%). As stated above, you'll lose money using it due to the MPG drop. If you purely wanted to use it to be more "green", then you'll end up filling your tank more often.

Other forums have discussed this issue about octane and ethenol content. There are sensors that detect "ping" that will back your timing off to save your engine, hopefully. In my area, it is very difficult to find stations that offer 100% gasolines.

 

I have the 4.7 and tried E85 twice. I went from 17.5-18.5 mpg on gas to 13-14mpg on E85. Won't buy it again unless the price spread is good enough.

 

I talked to the local gas station owner about this. He seems to feel that no one is going to want to sell it. No one wants the liability of ruining someones engine because the car couldn't take the 15. I know my car is not even supposed to run on e85 let alone gas with a 15% mix. I doubt you will see it for sale anywhere anytime soon. Public outcry will keep it from becoming a norm....

 

Where I get my 100% gas, its typically 7 - 13 cents cheaper than 90% . I also get 5 mpg better with 100%

 

Well, I dunno about your area, but there are a couple around me that offer 100% gas in their "super unleaded" and it is marked at the pump. Usually on their 94 octane. Seems that Shell does this along with Signal. There is one place around here that offers 105 octane which is a racing fuel, but that's a bit much in my book.

At First Ethanol 85 means 85% Alcohol & 15 % Unleaded Fuel, This Mix makes Shure Your Engine starts in Winter also smoth.
Either you have to know that in Alcohol is about 20% Oxygene, That means, Your Lamda sond will tell, you drive with a Lean Mixture. And you win nothing.
My Experience is over 5% Ethanol you put, the Car`s Computer will know it.
But there are Kit`s to Cross over this Problems. Third Generation Hemi`s dònt like that.
But i had an Old 1991 Ram Van 360cid. He dòsent care even with Thirty % Alcohol. But my 05 Hemi do not like at all.
So be careful with to much E85.

I buy 100% gasoline whenever it is available at the pump. I hate ethanol. Its less efficient than gasoline, it requires tax payer subsidization in order to be priced competitively and it is pushed by a bogus 'green' movement that is rooted in politics and not science. Just my $0.02...

Republican huh? Going green is the right thing to do. If not for you, how about your kids and grandkids. I am sure glad only a few extremists feel this way.

Everything you believe about ethanol being 'green' is a lie. Politicians use the issue to get environmental group support and money and farmer constituency group support and money. The media hypes it to trick common citizens into believing that they are making a difference to save the planet, which is much more resilient than you give it credit for.

Now does any of this mean I support pollution and destroying the planet? Absolutely not. But that goal is not truly achievable when you follow the path of a lie. We will find a better alternative to gasoline someday, but today is not yet that day and ethanol is certainly not that alternative. Its a step in the wrong direction, not the right direction.
