Default Remote Start 2010 Ram 1500

Hey Guys,

Just wondering for those of you out there that have the remote start, how far does it pick up the signal to start the vehicle?

Mine I have to get within a 100 yards or so. Kind of irritating since I'd like to start it from further away however I find I need to point the Key fob at the truck to get it to pick up the signal.

Factory claims to be around 800ft. 100 yards seems a little short.

Damn even with the 2nd Key I have the same Issue. 100 feet max and I need to be line of sight. If there is a wall blocking (from inside the front door) I need to press like 10 times for the truck to pick up the signal and for it to start....hmmmm, i'll try a clear parking lot tomorrow and see how far I can get.

Where is your antenna? Is it above the mirror where it's supposed to be? Maybe your remotes have weak batteries. I thought I read somewhere that the batteries only last about a year. I can't seem to find where i saw that now.

^^^^I read that somewhere a couple months ago too. I actually think that was on here. Never have tried it though. Gonna hafta run outside and try it now.

Well, doesn't work for the SENTRY keys. Maybe the older style key fobs. Or maybe it's my head that's the problem..

I had the dealer add the mopar remote start to my Charger. It worked a few hundred feet through walls. I hit the button through my jeans sometimes without knowing it. I don't know how many times someone would come into the office and tell me I left my car running. LOL .. that was a little frustrating and embarrassing (although I'd say I did it on purpose).

I haven't added one to my new 2010 1500. Some of the local car accessory shops advertise (aftermarket) remote starts that work up to a mile away (which I find hard to believe). Some of them even say it adds remote door lock/unlock if you have power locks (my truck didn't come with remote entry - which I do miss).

I also don't know if I want them messing with my truck .. I'll probably pay the extra money and have the dealer install the mopar remote start again and pass up the remote entry. *sigh*

My Ram has the auto start from the factory and it works to 100Yds. Put the remote under your chin, you'll be surprised how much boost in signal you get from the fillings in your teeth! It seriously works. Worked with the Xterra(2001) we had and the Outlander(2009) we have now.
