Best tires for towing in winter
Last year we were running Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1 tires on all 4 wheels (275/60-20) on our '09 1500, and they were PHENOMENAL in the snow! Didn't even need 4wd 99% of the time, it handled whatever Canadian weather we threw at it like a CHAMP.
However, after a trip across the mountains with a horse trailer (total weight around 9000lbs) the rear tire tread was completely GONE. I picked up some all season tires off an F150 for $80 bucks to hold us over till winter and they've about had it too now.
Now we are headed across the country on Dec 1st with the horse trailer, 1 young horse and all our personal belongings to move from Calgary (Alberta) to Toronto (Ontario).
The weather should be okay, but in the event that we hit snow, it sure would be nice to have tires that'll do well in it.
Can anyone suggest tires that:
1. Can handle a moderate amount of snow quite well.
2. Will not be completely bald by the time we get to Toronto, as I am SURE the Blizzak DM-V1's would be. So I am thinking an all-season heavy duty tire, rather than a snow tire.
3. Is capable of handling probably about an 8000lb load without any issues. We have a weight distribution hitch which should help even things out.
I am looking at Tire Rack, and in the "XL" load rating category there's only 3 tires:
Continental CrossContact LX
Hankook Ventus AS RH07
General Tire Grabber HTS
I am not very familiar with any of these tire brands, and know even less about truck tires. I've always had sports cars with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. I was excited by the Blizzak's last winter, but now I need something with more longevity even if it sacrifices a little snow capability. Since we're not doing any mountainous driving, and can stop our trip for a few days to avoid any major snow that exceeds our capabilities, I'd like a tire that will last us a year rather than being toast by April.
Thoughts?

General wont wear any better than a snow tire. In fact, I don't know of any tire from General lasting longer than 30,000 miles.
I can vouch for the Hankooks however. Very impressive tread wear and snow traction across the board for an AT tire.

I can vouch for the General Grabber AT2 they have a tread wear rating of 600. I had them on my crew cab Dakaota they are great in the snow and are severe weather rated, and are studable.
