It's not that it's a bad filter, but mainly that it's not the same filter every time. It may be purolator design one day (Wix, Napa Gold) and the next time you need a filter, it might be a Fram design. Just the risk alone is enough to make me stay away. Wix filters aren't expensive, and internally, they are not overly different from a K&N filter. Wix just doesn't have a fancy little nut on the end of it to take the filter off. Which reminds me... If you are installing your filter and torquing it down that hard that you need a nut on the end of the filter to remove it, then you are doing something wrong. I will admit that the filter is in a horrid location for these trucks, but I can strong arm them off every time. Even the factory filter that I pulled off of mine the other day wasn't but a breeze.

The list of filters is in the DIY thread which is a sticky on the first page. The best filter for the 5.7 Hemi with the proper materials and location of bypass filter is the Motorcraft FL820S. You can get it at Walmart.

IMHO

Used Fram most of the time over 20 years (98%), never had a problem with filter coming apart in any of the 10 vehicles they were used in, most of the time I buy the TG but I have used the PH models as well never had an issue or engine failure. My dad has put 200k on 3 vehicles and thats all he uses is a plain PH model.

Again its only IMO.

[deleted]

I found a YouTube video depicting a dissected Fram Ultra Guard that had collapsed internally under use. I'm still convinced the present orange Fram is a poorly constructed filter, but I discovered the video was contrived and removed the link.

My truck gets whatever the dealer or Valvoline Instant Oil change puts in. As for the Fram thing, I've been hearing "Fram is junk" for years - ususally from the same wonks who think that anything but Amsoil or Mobile 1 will make your vehicle explode. I run the Frams in everything else I own and have never had an issue.

Why suggest a Wix 51372 and not a NAPA Gold 1372? The only difference is the name painted on the canister.

I don't know about your area, but around me, there isn't one Napa within a 100 mile radius of me. Oriely's has all but ran off all the other parts stores. Not that I care, I kinda like them. Helps when I just go in the back door and start pulling stuff off the storage shelves and buy at cost plus 10%.
