Default Stock Goodyear HP Tire

Hi all, just would like to share my experience with the stock Goodyear Tires that I had today. I decided to go for a drive today and headed off into the bush. About 20 km after the pavement ends I hear a ding ding, and sure enough, Im losing air pressure. So I get out and yah, my right rear is losing air fast. Now the logging roads up here in pacific northwest (I was on Harrison service road in BC) are mostly made up of blast rock aggregetes, and there was a stretch that involved some new blasting and construction. I even said to myself, that this kind of road is probably not good for these tires (I have not read anything good about the stockers yet).

Anyway, no big deal right, just get out and throw on the spare....except that I have these antitheft lugnuts that came with the truck, and the removal tool is in my bedroom about 100 km away.

Oh well, so i turn around and drive 25 km back to the nearest gas station on a flat. These Goodyears are awesome for driving around flat, I sustained no damage to my stock 20inch rims.

Anyway next saturday I am going to put a set of Nitto Terra 10ply 275 65 20 on.

Any other suggestions on an alternitive tire would be welcome. I only drive it on weekends, on and off road, nothing to extreme.

BTW, a can of Gunk Tire Sealant got me the rest of the way home.

I am going to caution people about using that stuff. If you have a puncture and it is still leaking a little after putting this stuff in, well it will slowly ooze out as you are diving a fly up onto your truck, leaving a nasty film. I had that issue (although it was my front tire). I could not get my spare on as it was dark and could not get the lowering tool in correctly. Being it was your back tire you would not have got it as bad, but I recommend you run your hand over your truck behind your tire and on your gate to make sure you do not have the issue. The longer it sits the harder it will come off.

1am I was washing and waxing the side of my truck....

Oh, and the stuff can damage pressure sensors.

And another thing....If you use that slime stuff in your tire make sure to tell the tire guy that. Because they get really Pissed off if they go to take the tire off the rim and that sh....tuf gets all over them and the machine. BELIEVE me.

For your usage - bad roads and bush driving, I'd seriously consider ditching the 20's and get some of the factory 17's. They're more suited to what you use the truck for.

Stock 20" tires are nothing more than car tires. They are super soft and are not made for anything other than the pavement. I'm pretty sure they are classified as Highway All-season tires. They puncture easy and can not handle offroad conditions. Dodge uses these for a soft cushiony ride, they are cheaper, and give better mpg's. it's a scam on wheels I tell ya..lol
If it was your front tire, you would have rolled the wheel off the bead and would have def scortched your wheel, but since it was in the back and the stock tires are very soft, you got lucky.
Tire inflation cans are NOT reccomended and are NOT suppose to be used on TPMS equip vehicles. It will damage your sensors. Not to mention that the stuff emeds itself to the wheel just like it will on your paint just as CarguyOhio has stated. This means that your wheel will never fully balance correctly after if it's not cleaned all the way. Weights can only do so much.
If you want to offroad with 20's then go with a bigger sidewall such as 35's.

Capsfloyd: this is my story bout how awful these tires are...they are crap but good for running flat!

DirtyDog: the inflation can was my only option...no cell phone service there, also I have extra rim protection package...so if I damage it I recieve a replacement( or so they tell me)

Really the moral of the story here is if you use a wheel lock, make sure that the special lock is in your truck and not at home lol.

Also I think the Nitto Terra grapplers 265 75 size 10 ply will solve my problems...just wonder if it will change my ride quality much, not worried about fuel economy. And also looking at a level kit for the front, from what I read I may need it for the bigger tires.

BTW will have a set of 4 OEM tires for sale next week, only 6000km on them

How does the tire pressure thing work? It's a bit hard for me to understand since the wheel must turn and the wheels must come off. I had a neighbor ask me and I had no answer.
