A couple questions reguarding our trucks..
I would like to know why the 4th gen is 2009+ When my 06 mega cab looks the same as a 2009..and my buddies 09 megacab looks the same as mine...am i missing something here?
Alright so im new here but i have a 06 mega cab and i deal with salvage vehicles alot. I have decided to buy 2010 dodge ram mega cab (yes i know its called crew cab now) either way when you look at the cabs they look the same overall .
Front head lights and what not are different but it seems to me i could just take everything out of the 2010 and put it in mine?
What do you guys think?

The 1500 (non Mega which is really a SFA truck and should be grouped with the 2500s whether or not it's a Mega 1500 or 2500) are always a year ahead.
'02 2500/3500 were technically still 2nd Gen whereas it was the first year for 1500 3rd Gens. Same holds for the transition from 3rd Gen to 4th. The '09 1500s are totally new design, where you had to wait for the 2010s for a redesign of the 2500/3500 trucks...

Yes to clarify...
06-09 Mega Cab 2500 are all the same.
BUT
IS
2010 2500 minus the obvious body styling differences is it the same truck as the 2006-2009? The 2010 megacab now called crew cab i guess looks like i could switch it right over. So to clarify..
Take a 2010 ram megacab/crewcab and put it on a 06-09 dodge ram frame..Is this possible with no mods?

the crew cab is not the same as the mega cab, they still make the mega cab and is still bigger than the crew cab, the crew cab doesn't have reclining seats and the extra room behind the rear seat, i don't think that you could just swap bodys if thats what your asking

For somebody who deals with salvage vehicles this should be a no brainer..
They're very different. Some carry overs though, like the interior of the boxes appear to be the same.
However, the engines are all different (even the staple Hemi is quite a bit different between 3rd & 4th gens). The transmissions now have Tiptronic functions.
The electrics will be entirely different, the interiors are vastly changed.
No two exterior body panels will be the same.
The biggest difference for the 1500 is the coil springs, though that doesn't affect the HD trucks.
