I am looking to get a Dannmar Hoist, the one that lifts only 4'. It is rated at 6000 lbs. Do you think it will safely lift the Ram?

 

Curb weight is listed at about 5700lbs. To that you need to add fuel weight and anything else you might have added to the truck. I personally would not use a 6K lift with one.

 

My truck full of fuel and with an empty cab weighs almost exactly 7k pounds. If you are going with a lift you should look at a 10k pound one to be safe.

 

while the lifts are under rated for safety reasons and liability reasons, I would not knowingly overload it. To dangerous and no way you could hold them liable for overloading it.

 

My 1500 CC on my buddys 6000 lbs Eagle lift only made it 3 feet off the floor and the lift started bucking. It wont pick it. Like jayman said go for the 10k model

 

I am only gonna have 9' ceilings. I would use 1/2 the lift at my small engine shop and if i need to lift a vehicle i can bolt the other 1/2 down, i was just hopin it would do our Ram. I also like the portability factor of it as it has wheels on it. Does anyone know of a lift that would fit in a 9' ceiling?

Yea 7000 lbs seems a little heavy. My truck with half a tank of gas weighed out at about 5600 lbs.

If you look on the panel in the driver's side door you'll see where it said the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is 6800 lbs. That includes the curb weight of the vehicle and the max amount of weight you can have in the vehicle.

However, if you have a suspension lift on your truck, that will add a great deal of weight. That and more aggressive tires/heavier rims, you'd easily be pushing 6600 lbs curb weight.

 

lol...my bad....I meant to say 6k. 7k pounds is overloaded for these trucks. Lifts are typically under rated a little for capacity, but when it comes to walking under these things to do work I would always get a lift with extra capacity. Your life is well worth the extra money.

 

Maybe i'll try to head to the dump and get them to weight it, just to be sure. I was reading in the manual and it says the curb weight is with all fluids to max capacity with no drivers or payload. I thought curb weight was dry?
