Cool Shoulda known... Nothing's ever easy

So I took my truck to the shop today with the Rough Country 4" lift and the 35" Pro Comps piled in the back, all set to drop it of and pick it up Friday, and the first thing out of the guys mouth is that the stock rims won't fit the 35's with the lift because of the backspacing... claims they'll rub the upper A-arms.

So $800 bucks later I have a set of Diamo 17 Carat 20x10 rims on order and the kit slated to be installed *maybe* next week once the wheels show up...

Crap.

What width tire did you get? I think you can get up to 12 inches wide on the stock rim.

Right off the Rough Country Website:

This 4” suspension system was developed using a 35 X 12.5 tire with aftermarket wheels. 20” wheels with 5 1/2” backspace
or an 18” wheel with 5” of backspace will be required to maintain adequate clearance. Stock wheels can be used
with this lift with the addition of a 1/4” wheel spacer. As with any tire and wheel combination it is recommended to trial fit
the tire / wheel to assure there are no clearance problems.

You could have gotten away with their $35 wheel spacers as well...

That's the problem - apparently Rough Country is full of crapola. I bought the 1/4" spacers based on their website recommendations... the tech took one look at the truck and said no way it would work. I told him about what the website said, so he called it up, I showed him, he picked up the phone and called Rough Country on speaker phone while I stood there and asked them if the lift would work with my stock rims and the guy said no! We pointed out what the website said and he mumbled something about it being a mistake. As my girl would say, Donkey-Holes!!

On the plus side, I'll have a sweet looking set of skins on the truck when it's all said and done with...

Oh yea - the tires are 35x12.50xR20

One of the cart boys where I play golf has an '09 with a Rough Country 4" lift on it. I know he's got 35x12.5 Open Country M/Ts and I think he's still got the stock wheels.

I am playing friday morning and if he's working I'm gonna have to look into it. Curious...

That doesnt make any sense. Sounds to me like you were wrangled into buying a new set of wheels. Granted they're nice looking wheels...

Cool wheels but your pocketbook is $800 lighter! Any pics or are we still waiting for the wheels?

I know it! You'd think with such a lighter wallet I'd have some spring in my step...

The whole thing is confusing... I see some nice looking lifted rigs on here running the stock rims, and after reading a bunch of threads some guys claim you can run the stockers, some claim you can't... I dunno.

No pictures yet, I'm getting the entire thing done at one time (probably next week) when the wheels come in. My new spare arrived today though, just one more piece to look at for now...

If we can put a 20X10 wheel on with Nitto 35X12.5R20's on an 09 Ram with a 1.5" level, then you should have had no issues what so ever. Look forward to seeing this all done up though.
