Default Pioneer Z120BT in a 2011

Picking up my baby Thursday, got the el cheapo radio so I can toss it for a pioneer avic-z120bt. Anyone know what I need to install? Do I need a new bezel? I want to add backup camera too.

You won't need a new dash bezel but will need the mounting kit. They run ~$20 - think I got it from Crutchfield. You will also need to do a bit of cutting if I recall behind the dash. There is a metal bar that runs across the bottom of the opening that will need trimmed to get the vertical space.

I too have the Pioneer and love it. Hated the Kenwood 9960 I had in there before. Are you planning on trying to hook into the factory harness? That can get tricky if you're relying on the stock amp, etc. I found it easier (but more expensive) to just replace the system from scratch but the end result was great. New head, amps, speakers and wiring.

He wont have to worry about that if he got the basic stereo system.

You will need the dash kit, a dremel, and a wiring harness. Dont forget to wire in your emergency brake bypass if thats what you're into

Glad to hear that about the Pioneer, which model do you have? If you read enough reviews about this kind of stuff you end up thinking they all suck. Are you happy with the GPS?

Yes, I will have to locate harness adapters to avoid cutting/soldering but not sure if I want to add amplifiers.

Bigred, thanks for the installation thread! I might have to bug you for parts list / source. My profession is electronics and I've done installs before but it's been quite a long time.

No problem. I did that install before any equipment had been released for the trucks. Now they are readily available.... You can probably find them at a walmart near you. Let me know if you need assistance

I have the z110. Not as many audio adjustments as the kenwood had but with a little tweaking I think I got it to the same place. The gps hasn't run me into a river yet but I can't say I use it a lot. I love the interface into the ipod which is much better/faster than the KW (which sucked for the price).

With a harness the install shouldn't be bad. Figure like Red said - bring a dremmel. For the attennas (Sirius & gps) I ran out through the firewall right above the break pedal. There is (on mine) a plastic cover there that was easily drilled. Just stuck them on roof corner above windshield - the wires can be tucked along molding along windshield.

If you go amps, it was easy enough to run down under shifter and to the back. JL amps fit well under back seat - one on each side - one for speakers - other for subs. Running new speaker wires into doors, well that kinda sucked.

I installed the same in my 2010. I used a drimel to do the cutting mentioned. I also installed the back up cam model Pioneer ND-BC20PA, it works awesome, but a little pricy. . I did it and it works. I bought from sonic electronics, there prices were better than everyone else.
there is a good video on youtube on how to enable the video in motion. so you can watch movies etc while driving. I loaded a bunch of music videos and movies on my ipod. the 120bt has a great ipod interface.

I forgot to mention, like crutchfield the sonic electronics web site will let you select the vehicle you are going to install in, so you can choose the correct adapters and harnesses.
