Default laptop sound help

Need some help. My wife likes to watch and listen to her laptop while on trips. The sound out of her laptop speakers is not loud enough and we were wondering if you could run the sound through the truck stereo using the USB port. I'm not interested in some type of AllGig unlocking system for my navigation screen to watch DVD's while driving. I know I can get an external speaker for the laptop but would rather use the stereo. Thanks for your help.

I don't think you can do anything through the usb port, but if your radio has the aux input for a 1/8" jack, you should be able to plug a patch cable from your laptop into that and listen to all the computer sounds through the stereo.

nwatcher is right. You can go to radio shack or any electronics store and buy a audio patch cord that will go from the headphone jack on your laptop to the aux in jack on your sterio in your truck. Easy fix.

Weeee Doggie. That was a fast answer to my problem. Ran out in the cold to see where that aux jack was and you're right it's sitting next to the USB port. I'm going out to Radio Shack as soon as they open. I will report back. Thanks for the rapid reply.

If her laptop has bluetooth, you can do it that way and not have to worry about a cable running around. That way if she wanted to be in the back seat do stretch out or something, she could with out having to run the cable back there...

Thanks Laramie. I don't know if she has Bluetooth in her Mac and she never sits in the back cause the dog has all his dog stuff back there for the trip. We actually bought this truck for the dog to have plenty of room. Had the truck two months and drove X-country with plenty of wandering in between. I could not get over how great the ride was. I will look into the Bluetooth but in the mean time, I'm just leaving for RS to get a cable. With all the other cables running from the AC plug for her charger, what's one more. Thanks for the input.

Turns out we do have Bluetooth on her laptop. Tried to see how it syncs with the truck radio and could not find any info. Are the Rams setup for Bluetooth? If so, how do I active it?

I know bluetooth works for your phone, but I'm not sure if you can use it for just straight audio from a laptop. I would check out your owners manual for your truck. Should be under the uConnect section.

I checked the manual and CD but could not find a way to connect the laptop with Bluetooth to my stereo. If anyone knows how, let us know. I also went to Radio Shack and got a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo male to stereo male cable and it works like a champ. Not a problem with the wire but if I can do it wireless, I might as well give it a try. Thanks again for the recommendation on the patch cable.

Glad you got it working for you.

I don't know about the newer models, but the REN radio I have doesn't support bluetooth music streaming profile. I would think this would require a fair bit of configuration to work around.

If you want to go wireless, you can use one of those RF transmitters for like the ipod where you listen on a radio station. The quality sucks, and be ready for lots of interference, but it's wireless.
