I compared the MPG(US standard) to the liters per hundred(international standard) fuel consumption numbers and it turns out that mpg value is based on a US gallon. So if this mpg number seems low for you imperial gallon types now you know why.
The formula for the conversion is
mpg = 235.214584 / DIN
DIN is the liters per 100 kilometers
Therefore liters per 100 km = 235.214584 / mpg
